Long Time For A Stressed Life

We are doing a series on Joy in church right now.  I never thought about it the way they are presenting it but it does make sense!

We are commanded to be Joyful – to Rejoice!  Just like all of the other things the Lord has told us to do or not do -this is something we are to be doing.

As a matter of fact it is in my favorite Bible passage!

Philippians 4: 4-9

4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

Yes there are times we will be sad.  Yes there are people who are born who see the glass half empty instead of half full.  Yet we are told we need to rejoice!  We are supposed to be joyful.

The thing we talked about this past weekend was being joyful undercover.  When you are by yourself and you feel alone (because if you believe you are never alone) are you joyful?  Are you giving praise for the things you see or the things you hear or are you stewing over issues that you have no control over?

I personally am a half empty person.  Lucky for me I have found a person who is half full person.  So we do tend to balance each other out.  That is a good thing.  It was a needed thing for me!

I have been living with stress in my life for a long time.  Even before I left 25 months ago – I was living with stress.

How do I get past the stress and get to a joyful life?  I want to live with rejoicing.  I want to see joy in the leaves changing color.  I want to see joy in the rain that is falling.  I want to see joy in my children’s smiles.

Lately I haven’t been that way.  So I am on a mission to find the joy in my life again!  I am commanded to live with it!

Thankfully this week’s sermon is on joy during times of trial!  I am looking forward to it!

Lets Talk About Pizza!

Really I know that might sound funny but every place has those put the pizza through the oven for set amount of time, cookie cutter pizza joints like Pizza Hut, Little Ceasers and the such.

I am talking about those mom and pop pizza places that have the owners who came from Italy.  Which by the way has amazing pizza (Italy that is).

I think I have gotten to the point of feeling spoiled!  Here in the town I live in and surrounding areas there are a few mom and pop shops.

We have :

  1. Fred’s Pizza – I grew up on Fred’s Pizza.  Have been to each one of their homes so to speak.  I would stand on the table and pick all the mushrooms off the pizza!  Love their pizza.
  2. Florentines Pizza – I recently (since March 2008) found them because of Jack.  I love, love, love this pizza.  It has a sweetness to the sauce that I love (I love pizza but it has to have a good sauce or forget it).
  3. Peppino’s Pizza – I found them a few years ago and they just have a good pizza.  Yummy

Anyway pizza is great but I so prefer the mom and pop places!

Last night was a football game for my oldest boy and on the way home I stopped at a Little Ceasers and boy did I regret it.  I should have just called and ordered from Florentines and waited for it to be done.  Yet I was so antsy and so hungry – I just stopped and paid my $5 for a cookie cutter pizza.  Even with the fancy little expensive sauces they offer there – it still wasn’t as good as the other stuff.

Not really a big deal I guess – but if I am going to eat pizza – I am thinking having some patiences really goes a long ways!

September 11th

Well it has been seven years since the United States was attacked with our own plans.  Normally I don’t write about these things – I just pray but today for whatever reason I feel like I need to write.

For the most part I am a very emotional person.  I remember sitting there playing with Adam when the phone rang and I was told to turn the TV on.  I asked what channel and was told – it does not matter.

I turned the TV on just in time to see the 2nd plane hit the twin towers!

That was a very long day for me.  I didn’t know anyone in any of those locations but I felt for all those people, all those families, all those lives that were affected by it!

Overall in the end truly the whole country was affected by it in some way.

Military families here in the states were affected.  Lay people here in the states were affected.  Everyone here in the states were affected.  Even people from other countries were affected because of those in the towers.  There were times and still are when arabic families here in the states were affected.

So much changed that day and nothing seems to be back where it was.  It seems that since 9/11 took place oil prices have gone crazy, jobs have been a struggle, the economy as a whole is hurting, families continue to lose loved ones and yet so many seem to forget.

I wish we didn’t have to have our troops overseas.  Yet it is as though so many have forgot what took place here on our soil seven years ago.  I wish we were not still losing lives but in the end it is all for us.

I grew up in a household that honored the flag.  I grew up in a household that believed in the military.  I grew up in a household that put the hand over the chest and took the hat off when the American Anthem or Pledge of Allegiance was said.  I grew up thanking our veterans and current military men and women.  I grew up knowing they did everything they did for the freedoms we have in the here and now.

Not so many grow up with that anymore.  It is as if so many forget why.

Today is a day of reflection.  Today is a day to remember.  Today is a day of prayer.

Hair Pulling

Lately Isabella just does not seem happy.  We have lots of crying.  She is starving and yet doesn’t really want to eat.  She as usual is tired but doesn’t want to sleep.

She has not been running a fever.  She is just being stubborn.  Who know an almost 9 month old could be so darn stubborn?!

By the end of the day I just want to curl up in a ball and ball my eyes out.

I have no answer for her.  I try to comfort her but it just does not work.  I truly can not wait until the end of November when they do the start of the sleep study!

I am hoping that maybe just maybe all of these things are steaming from the lack of sleep!

Awesome Chili

Okay so those of you who really know me – know I struggle with giving recipes to people.  Not because I don’t want to but because I never measure out what I put into it.  I normally use the same ingredients but never the same amounts.

So I made really yummy awesome chili the other night and had a couple people ask me for the recipe.  So here I am going to do my best on giving you the recipe I used.  I did attempt to measure but again I kind of stink at this game!

Ingredients:

1 lb. Hamburger
1 lb. Spicy Sausage
1 lb. Sweet Sausage
2 Quart Jars Tomatoes however you like them (I used our home canned tomatoes)
2 large Onions
2 large Green Peppers
Garlic (as much or as little as you want)
Pinch to 1/4 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes (this is for heat)
1 Large Can Kidney Beans (dark or light whatever you prefer)
2 cans Maple Cured Bacon Baked Beans
1 tablespoon to 1/2 cup Chili Powder
1 tablespoon to 1/2 cup Cumin
Fresh Cracked Black Pepper (as much or as little as you want)
1Can Tomato Paste
1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
1 small can Green Chili’s with sauce
Dash or so Apple Cider Vinegar
1/2 cup Brown Sugar
Parsley (just cover top of dish)
Okay so I browned the hamburger, spicy sausage and sweet sausage with lots of onions, green peppers and garlic.  Drained the meat after it was browned.
In a separate pan I put in the tomatoes, kidney beans and sauce, baked beans and sauce, tomato paste, green chili’s with sauce, parsley, red pepper flakes, chili powder, cumin, black pepper, brown sugar, and apple cider vinegar.
Cook the sauce for about a hour and then add the meat to it.
Mind you the chili powder and cumin really should be equal in amounts.  Want it hotter add more.  Want it sweeter add more brown sugar.
Also you can add if you want some bacon; adds a great twist.
Cook for at least 2 hours total and enjoy.

Since Friday afternoon my life has been crazy.  I have had ups and downs and round and round.

Al I can say right now is I am praising Him in good and bad.  I have to – I have nothing left!
